This house was built in 1863,it belonged to certain Lipin,he was involved with timber.
The house was profitable as a hotel of apartments where different families rented an apartment. As in any profitable house, the 2nd floor is regarded as the most attractive, where the most wealthy families and landlords of the house lived. The higher the floor the less prestigious. The poorest people lived on the top floor, for instance Raskolnikov lived on the very top floor. Thus we have the most fancy part of the house.
In the Soviet period this building was fully occupied; the apartments were turned into communal flats. Conditions were poor -several people lived in each room and there was only one bath in each apartment . When we came here-the communal flat was already emptied and the apartment looked dreadful. We demolished all the walls except the brick walls and constructed it all over again.
Several scenes of the serial "The Master and Margarita" based on Mikhail Bulgakov's novel of the same name were filmed here.
Our beautiful 19th century wood-fired oven, it was very heaped up for that time. It has a compartment filled with water that is heated and it can be poured out through a tap. Now the oven can be used every day using gas. The tiles on the walls and on the floor are also historical. The floor was laid 150 years ago, before the revolution.
